Gender Equality Index
Category
In accordance with the provisions of the French “Professional Future” Law, which aims to eliminate pay gaps between women and men, BNP Paribas and its various entities in France publish their Gender Equality Index.
What does this index consist of?
In accordance with Decree No. 2019-15 of January 8, 2019, the index is calculated based on 4 to 5 indicators (depending on the size of the company). It gives a score out of 100 points. Each company must achieve a minimum score of 75/100. If a company does not reach this threshold, it has three years to comply, failing which it may be subject to a penalty of up to 1% of its total payroll. The objective of this measure is to promote equal pay between women and men and thereby create a working environment that fosters diversity and inclusion.
To establish their score, large companies must meet five key criteria set in advance by the government:
- Pay gap between women and men, for comparable classification and age (40 points).
- Difference in the distribution of individual salary increases between women and men (20 points).
- Difference in the distribution of promotions between women and men (15 points).
- Salary increases upon return from maternity leave (15 points).
- Gender parity among the 10 highest-paid employees (10 points).
